As many of you know my little sister got married in Italy last week. Her new in-laws sprung for a villa in Tuscany for a week for 26 of us. This was the trip we dreamed of taking when we got the girls out of college, etc., but, of course, we couldn’t miss this opportunity to be with our family. Needless to say, it was amazing (and all the other adjectives you can think of). This little sheltered girl from Virginia only had a passport to go to Cancun for a friend’s wedding a few years ago. Suffice to say I walked around with my mouth open for 11 days. I cried when I walked onto the lawn of the villa – it took my breath away (cheezy I know, but true). We visited the Vatican, Colosseum, Roman Forum, St. Peter’s Basilica with a tour guide (incredible) and then on to Tuscany where we toured a olive oil factory in Anghiari, a winery in Chianti, Cortona and drove along the coast of the Mediterranean. Ugh – breathtaking.
Looking at the pictures now just can’t do justice to the places we visited and things we saw. I wish our younger daughter was a little older (almost 9), but hopefully she’ll remember some of it. Someone asked her what her favorite thing was and she said she enjoyed the “center” (aka Colosseum) where the gladiators died (yikes) and the place where there was paintings on the ceiling and the guy, what’s his name, he got paint in his eye. Hmmm, we need to work on the history lessons. Now there are so many things I want to see and places I want to visit. Too bad I’m out of sisters to get married… my other sister said we need to set up a bribe for our girls – if they wait until they’re 28 to get married, etc. maybe they can get married in Italy (I need to figure out how much to save a month between now and then!).
