As many of you know my little sister got married in Italy last week. Her new in-laws sprung for a villa in Tuscany for a week for 26 of us. This was the trip we dreamed of taking when we got the girls out of college, etc., but, of course, we couldn’t miss this opportunity to be with our family. Needless to say, it was amazing (and all the other adjectives you can think of). This little sheltered girl from Virginia only had a passport to go to Cancun for a friend’s wedding a few years ago. Suffice to say I walked around with my mouth open for 11 days. I cried when I walked onto the lawn of the villa - it took my breath away (cheezy I know, but true). We visited the Vatican, Colosseum, Roman Forum, St. Peter’s Basilica with a tour guide (incredible) and then on to Tuscany where we toured a olive oil factory in Anghiari, a winery in Chianti, Cortona and drove along the coast of the Mediterranean. Ugh - breathtaking.
Looking at the pictures now just can’t do justice to the places we visited and things we saw. I wish our younger daughter was a little older (almost 9), but hopefully she’ll remember some of it. Someone asked her what her favorite thing was and she said she enjoyed the “center” (aka Colosseum) where the gladiators died (yikes) and the place where there was paintings on the ceiling and the guy, what’s his name, he got paint in his eye. Hmmm, we need to work on the history lessons. Now there are so many things I want to see and places I want to visit. Too bad I’m out of sisters to get married… my other sister said we need to set up a bribe for our girls - if they wait until they’re 28 to get married, etc. maybe they can get married in Italy (I need to figure out how much to save a month between now and then!).
Here are a few of my favorites - also visit the MBP Facebook page

More of my new favorite venue - The Mill. Gorgeous fall weather and the smell wood burning in a fire place (probably just someone burning brush). Mmmm, made me want to go home and watch a good football game!
Senior season is almost over, but we had fun!

Each month the PPA magazine has a “Good Works” article featuring a photographer and their charitable work.
I’d love to hear about some of the things you are involved in - please share with a comment here!

I know I say it all the time, girls did not look like this when I was a teenager… they grow ‘em differently now! I was going to post my senior portrait (just for a little laugh) and couldn’t find it. Actually, I guess I don’t want to throw my out here next to Emily - she’s way too cute. When the leaves start turning we’re going to go play with her horse - fun!

Wow, how quickly you forget how busy toddlers are. We just let her wander around and be cute. My kids are in the stage of “where are we going” and “who can sleep over tonight” so it so fun to escape back to the days of finding an acorn and it being so interesting. My favorite thing is when they get upset or frustrated with something and you can start singing a song and they smile and start dancing (now, what was I irritated about?)… too bad that doesn’t work on teenagers!!

We found a beautiful new venue - The Mill at Fine Creek. It’s a historic gristmill with gorgeous landscaping and architecture only about 8 miles from the studio. We battled schedules, sickness and weather but finally got our great family portrait. Beautiful family!

Wow, I’ve been back for over a week and trying to catch up and everyone around me keeps getting sick. My husband got strep throat (who knew you could get strep throat at 42 years old) and then passed it on to me, then our oldest daughter got swimmer’s ear (I knew nothing about this and told her she just had a little sore on her ear - mom of the year!) and the dog got an abrasion on her eye. Ugh! Can you say doctor / prescription copay?!
Oh well, everyone is on the mend and it could be worse, right?!
So, it was really windy all week at the beach. It was Thursday and they were calling for rain on Friday. We’re sitting at the pool late afternoon and the clouds start rolling in. I rushed the kids to the shower (slow pokes still had wet hair in the portraits) and we hustled to a great spot over on the sound… thought it would be less windy, but no go. Oh well, we got the annual portraits and will look forward to the great family portraits we’ll get in Italy in a few weeks (for those that don’t know - my sister’s wedding is there middle of Sept =)
The 4 cousins… Me & my girls…

Speaking of capturing those memories…
Last time portraits were done, there were only two girls =). Aren’t they gorgeous?!
