As many of you know we do “school portraits” for the long-term care kids at Children’s Hospital every year or so. The unit has grown and there are lots of new faces, but there are also lots of little ones I have watched grow over the past 4 years. Even though many of them can’t communicate with their voices, their eyes and smiles say so much. Each time I visit I know I will take away more from the experience than will the families that receive a few updated family portraits. I not only see these little beings that are happy and bring joy to those around them, but I leave with a full heart from seeing the wonderful staff that love and care for these kids, the loving parents that seem to take these challenges in stride and the sense that I played a part in capturing a memory for them to keep forever.
